Overview of Research
My research is guided by the principles introduced by Kirkness and Barnhardt in 1991 – The Four Rs – Respect, Relevance, Reciprocity, and Responsibility. I am grounded in the teachings of our Elders to honour and revere my beginnings.
As the former Chair (2018-2022) of Indigenous/Xwulmuxw Studies at Vancouver Island University, I had the privilege of contributing as a collaborative researcher and principal investigator in various projects. These initiatives aimed to transmit knowledge derived from the land to younger generations for cultural preservation, as well as to digitally exhibit Indigenous history and culture to the public. Leveraging my tenure as former Chair, I was fortunate to bring a depth of background knowledge and insights to my involvement in these projects. This experience humbly enabled me to play a role in their success across multiple fronts, fostering valuable connections between Indigenous communities and the academic sphere.
