Material Culture

Pine needle baskets are one of the Secewepemc Peoples’s cultural practices. They are made from pine needles that are harvested from the ground once they have fallen off the trees. Here are examples of pine needle baskets.

Made by Georgina Martin during material culture seminars at Vancouver Island University.
Made by an unknown local artist. This basket is on display at the showcase at Thompson Rivers University in Williams Lake.

This basket with the lid was gifted to my relative. It was made by Irene and Gerry Charley of Canim Lake.
